Welcome to our Improv Wizards Blog! We want to help you become an Improv Wizard by teaching you improv. You’ll quickly learn that although improv seems like magic, you can actually learn how to do it and have a lot of fun at the same time!

Now, you may be thinking, “Sure, that’s great for those actor types who want to do improv training because their agents told them they needed to, but this is not for me.”  Well if you’re thinking that, take just 2 minutes and keep reading, because we want you to know that..

YOU Can Benefit from Learning Improv

Improvisation is a magical skill. People have been mesmerized by live improv comedy shows and TV shows like “Whose Line is it Anyway” for decades.  Most people, when they see good improv, think, “I could never do that!”

Guess what? You can!

Improv is a skill. And like any other skill, it can be taught, learned, practiced, improved, and mastered.

BUT even if you have NO desire to become an improv comedy performer, learning improv can help you develop incredible skills that are useful in your everyday life.

That’s right, improv training will help you in many things you do in your life. Here’s a quick list why:

1) Improv is Fun!

The first reason is also the last reason. It’s fun! It’s amazingly fun to take an improv class, to do improv with your friends, and even to practice it alone! And improv is not only fun to do, it teaches you new ways to have fun.

Improv is a reward in and of itself. If you’re afraid of trying it, that’s understandable. But like a lot of new things, that fear is just anxiety of the unknown. Thankfully one of the unknowns here is fun! And we’ve sat through many classes where watching is just as fun as doing.

2) Thinking Fast on Your Feet

This is maybe the most obvious reason. And it’s a good one. Practicing to think fast on your feet in a safe environment is INVALUABLE for so many things you do in life. It’s “spontaneity training for your brain”. You’re literally giving your brain practice in thinking faster, and it’s making synapse connections that can be used in all kinds of life situations.

As you use improv to think faster on your feet, your brain will start getting better and better at it the more you do it.

3) Safe Risk Taking

There are real risks and perceived risks. Risk taking in ‘real life’ can have serious consequences. But in an improv class or practice, you can take risks that are completely safe. This can help break you out of your shell, and it will also help you become more comfortable working with other people in a non-risky environment.

4) Reducing Anxiety

Managing anxiety is a part of life. And improv allows us to face it head on, but in fun way.  For example..

Did You Know it Can Be Fun to Fail?!

That’s right. Failure can be fun. And in improv, it’s actually really fun to fail. Seeking that fun in failure can drastically change your anxiety levels.

5) Developing Creativity

Creativity Rules!

Your imagination will thrive in an improv class.  You will practice imagining things that aren’t there and even have never been there or anywhere ever before. You’ll be creating characters, storylines, and even physical objects that no-one can see but everyone believes are there.

Creativity is a no-brainer with improv. Creativity is the essence of improv. Just doing simple improv games, alone or in a group, will boost your creativity.

6) Building Confidence

Improv builds confidence! Every exercise you do, every choice you make, every risk you take – these all add up to proof that you can do it. You’re accomplishing mini-goals all along the way, staring your nerves in the face, laughing at your mistakes, and doing it anyway. That builds confidence.

7) Because We’re Teaching It
